Precious little one
2005, digital print.
The sweet innocence of childhood. A pastel existence with no complications. Simplify the world and this is what is seen through rose coloured glasses. Romantic and idealic. Looking for contrast from adult life of complications and difficulties, pastel coloured nostalgia is applied onto childhood and children.
More than representations and stereotypes, children are actually small people: complex, with their own problems and anxieties. In contemporary pop culture, children are presented in either a romantic, angelic mode or as extreme, little devils. Nothing is ever truly bad or good and it is too simple to believe that to be the case.
Innocence does not diminish the possibility for knowing.
